Queijadas De Leite

Posted by Picasa
I think this was from a booklet type recipe book.  Bland, just kinda blah.  Weird, but i've tasted these before, and they were delicious.  "leite" means milk,  and they are creamy, but not in a cheesecake-kind of way.  More like a dutch baby pancake. I do love that I don't have to make a crust.
My mission of trying out all these traditional Portuguese pastries will continues.   This one will have to be on the fail side of the mission.  The Pasteis de Nata makes up for this loser.

Eats.

Breakfast: Oat bran with blueberries for breakfast.
lunch: egg white sandwich on whole wheat, cheese, shredded cabbage. carrots. apple.
afternoon snack: 1/2 of a luna bar. choc. pecan pie. tasty, but i miss the peanut butter ones.
dinner: frozen boxed lasagna. hate to admit it, but it's the only frozen food (apart from pizza) I can manage eating it. I just can't imagine making a whole big dish of lasagna for little ole me. So, the frozen kind usually do it for me.
I supplement it with green beans (TJ's frozen petite) and carrots again.
Another apple.
Dessert: Kelloggs antioxidant choc. chip bar.  and to keep the choc. thing going a lindt milk choc. truffle.  I can't do the dark stuff.

What I'm Knitting:

From my sucessful trip to the library I picked up Knitting Little Luxuries: Beautiful Accessories to Knit by Louisa Harding.   Really pretty book, but only think I'll knit a couple of things on it. First the bag on the cover, I will knit it. Eventually. Not sure if I've got the right yarn for it.
So, on to the Juliet Scarf.  Thinking of a gift for my sister in March.  Perhaps in a minty green yarn I've got ages ago.

What I'm reading:

Carola Dunn: Black Ship (Daisy Dalrymple Mysteries, No. 17

Kinda lost here. I missed a couple of books before, now Daisy is a mom, and it feels odd.  I may go back a couple of books to catch up.  I got this on impulse at the library. I hadn't been to a public library in ages, and when I saw this I snapped it up. I had that flea market mentality, if i don't snap it up it will be gone forever.
I must change that if i'm to continue to go to public libraries instead of Borders.

Krispy Kreme

Fearing they are going out of business I've been going there every other day.
Oddly, I never went before, there isn't one around me, just dunkin' donuts.   It always seemed to out of the way for a treat.  Considering I'm perfectly happy with my egg and cheese sandwiches at DD.
But, the idea of not having a Krispy Kreme store around really sadens me.
Plus, I can use the extra calories.

carnival - king cake and bolo rei.

In honor of carnival and it's many versions, I'm making a cake.
A Bolo Rei.  The King Cake is a little to purple for my taste. And as my family traditionally makes these Bolo Reis for Christmas, I figures it's been a while.
They are just a brioche type dough, with plenty of eggs (preferably from a kind neighbor who has chickens).  Then you add enough candied fruit until it the little round circle of dough is covered. After it rises, I usually add more fruit, nuts etc.
I honestly can't stand these things, but my family likes it, so I make it.   I get they aren't like the dreaded Christmas fruit cake, or even the Panettone that people like to gift at Christmas.  Still, it's not my thing.
